It's been a fair while since I last updated and a lot has happened. Since this is supposed to be my blog, I should really update it. This'll be a long one...

There's three things to update for: mother, work, and home. Not necessarily in that order.

Mother
Remember me saying that my mother got attacked by druggies outside the train station two years ago? It caused a slight problem in her nose, called a "deviated septum" (or, in layman's terms; her nose was a bit bent). The surgery to fix this, called "rhinoplasty" or "septoplasty", finally came around on June 16th (2008, obviously). The idea was that she would have the op to fix the bend, they would pack her nose to protect against bleeding, and by next day at latest she'll be on her merry way home. It was a very, very, simple procedure and one of the most basic surgeries that can be done. Two surgeons and a nifty pamphlet all described that worst case scenario was that it might get infected resulting in a hole that would require another surgery to fix. I reiterate; that was worst case scenario as given by two expert surgeons and an informative leaflet.

She had the op. They didn't pack her nose - they felt it wasn't necessary. Coming round from the anaesthetic she had two asthma attacks. Bad, but an unfortunate result of going for surgery when ashmatic and was expected. She recovered well but she was supposed to be highly monitored either by somebody checking her every half hour to an hour or by placing a monitoring machine on her - it's a small machine on a stand that monitors your stats and beeps if there's anything amiss. We saw they had machines - in spades. However, they didn't monitor her properly. Barely at all, even.

No packing, no monitoring. Obviously something isn't quite right there.

She died.

June 17th in the early morning she was left unattended and unmonitored for two and a half hours with no packing. Her nose haemorrhaged, which was a likely occurence due to the operation as one of the surgeons and the leaflet described. Since she was asleep and unmonitored the blood slid down into her lungs. They referred to it as a "cardiorespitory arrest", which, to us non-jaron folks means she basically drowned in her own blood. And nobody fucking noticed until hours later when she was stone cold dead already.

My mother is gone, because the hospital killed her, because some druggies two years ago attacked her without reason. I don't need to tell you how I've been. So, moving on...

Home
I got evicted. My landlord wanted the place either rented for £600 per month or to be sold fully. Since I cannot afford that and because mother was the tenant not I, I had only weeks to find a place and move. I finally did, and so I'm no longer living in a 3-bedroom house in a quiet neighbourhood. I'm now living in a 0-bedroom bedsit above a shop with noisy neighbours next door and druggies only yards away. Tidy.

Work
Something good for a change! I've lately been floorwalking which means I help those fresh out of training in what we call "grad bay". It's been an interesting experience. Not only that but I'll be changing to the "Retention Team", it's more clerical based work which I love and should prove to be decent. I'll be going over tomorrow. My current boss, though, who has dubbed me "Benny" because I apparently resemble Benny Andersson - the lyricist from the music group Abba; he has discovered my site. So if you notice somebody under the name "Bjorn" posting here, it's just him. Don't believe anything he says. >_>

So, that's the update. When I get more settled in I will try to continue the plans and coding for my battle system. I'm even taking a PHP & MySQL course through a distant learning project through work to see if it'll help any.
